With 2020 fast approaching, I thought of sharing my 2019 year in review.
So, the year is about to end…and maybe the decade??
What now? Does 2020 have great things in store for you and me?
Before anything else, allow me to share with you this hashtag first…
Yep, that was my hashtag when I started this year!
Did I live up to this theme over the course of the year?
Hmmn, not really… 😉
But there’s one thing that truly mattered…
I realized that this year eventually is a year of breakthrough for me! (nothing fancy though)
Nope, I’m not talking about material breakthroughs. But I believe it’s way more than that!
It is my hope that you’ll find value in what I’m about to share in this 2019 year in review!
So without further ado, here are the lessons (which I also consider my breakthroughs) that helped me a great deal this year!
Life is NOT a Competition!
After 34 years of believing that life is a game, I discovered the DECEIVINGLY simple, but EXTREMELY powerful ways you can win in life and become…THE GRANDEST VERSION OF YOURSELF!
Nope, I’m not trying to hype or anything…
This, for me, is one of the major breakthroughs that happened to me this year.
I realised I’ve been carrying a burden in me…
I’ve been carrying a FALSE BELIEF that’s holding me back in life. A belief that has been paralyzing me for 3 decades now.
I was raised in an environment believing that life is a game. And how do I suppose to win? I need to be ahead of the competition. Sounds familiar?
Medals. Honors. Being at the top of your game.
Growing up, I have these as my parameters in measuring how successful people are. And that includes me.
But NO. Life doesn’t have to be that way. I had to change my belief. I needed to SHIFT!
That one single shift in my belief has led me to achieving my breakthrough!
I realize that I should not be in competition with anyone. Not even myself!
Breakthrough is not happening because I would always see people as my rivals.
Your breakthrough comes from finding win-win solutions.
That’s how important it is to have a good belief system. Your beliefs about things will dictate your actions. Your actions will lead you to your results.
Good thing, I got to uncover this deep seated belief–rooted from my childhood.
…and I love that it gets me grounded!
Wait what? ( I know that sounds confusing)
Allow me to explain through the next lesson which I also consider my breakthrough.
It is this…
When You’re Called to Serve, Just Say Yes!
| RELATED: Called to Serve? Just Say Yes!
I have never felt so embarrassed!
Stuttering. Shaking! Until I just found myself break down and cry!
7 years have passed but it’s still vivid in my memory—that moment when I first opened up about my story in a light group (others call it caring group).
I would cringe every time I remember it!
I used to be really shy and introverted. Being with other people was the last thing I’d do.
That’s why, when I got invited to serve at the Music Ministry at The Feast, I was hesitant.
“How dare you! You expect me to stand up and sing??…when I couldn’t even stand being with other people!”.
Those were my favorite lines then…
But something happened that changed the course of my life…
I allowed God to come in during my period of discernment. It was as if He was telling me…
“When do you plan to go outside your comfort zone?”
Man, I had to eat my pride and said yes to Him!
I said yes not just to serving Him, but also in allowing Him to enter into my life. It was life-changing!
Have you reached your rock bottom? No matter how deep you are in your mess, God will meet you where you are.
It all starts with an encounter with Him.
The rest is history!
This has been the story of my life for more than 7 years now. It’s something I learned from Bro Bo Sanchez.
Called to serve? Just say yes!
This allows you to see the vastness of God’s universe!
Which brings me to this next major lesson…
WARNING: Your ‘short of resources’ DOESN’T MEAN there’s a shortage in supply!
Makes sense? Good. In any case, allow me to explain.
I remember this wonderful story from Joel Osteen.
There was this man who went on fishing one day. Every time he catches big fish, he would throw it back to the water (no big fish were harmed in this story 😉 ).
It went on for the whole day. Whenever he catches big fish, he wouldn’t budge. Without a second thought, he would throw them back to the water.
Here’s what’s even ironic! His eyes would lit whenever he catches small fish! Guess what? That’s what he keeps.
This little kid who has been watching him from afar was kinda puzzled. So he finally got the nerve to ask the guy.
“Hey sir, I don’t get it. I’ve been observing you all this time. Why keep the small fish and not the big fish??”, the little boy asked.
The old man smiled and responded, “Son, it’s simple. It’s because I have a small frying pan.”
Your ‘short of resources’ DOESN’T MEAN there’s a shortage in supply! The problem lies in your ability to get hold of the blessings (I know..myself included).
Here’s the thing…God’s universe is LIMITLESS!
Now the question is this…What is the size of your frying pan?
Enlarge your vision. Think big!
Talk about thinking big…
One thing that really gave me my major breakthrough this year is this…
You Can Get Out of the Rat Race!
| RELATED: Get Out of the Rat Race! My Boracay Escapade Tells You Why!
What I thought was just a fun escapade, turned out to be the highlight of my year!
I only hoped for a great island get away. I wanted to take some time off the busyness of this world.
I’ve been hustling here and there that all I needed was a break!
Voila, the Boracay escapade happened!
Little did I know, I was set up for another work. ( packaged in a good way! 😉 )
This is where I learned this game that literally changed my life forever.
I’m talking about the cashflow game…
It definitely takes some time and mental investment to play…
But here’s the thing..
You’ll have so much fun the “educational game” stigma won’t apply. It does make you start thinking about money management in a different way.
This has brought me into this realization…
The only way to get out of the rat race is when your passive income is greater than your expenses!
At this point, I still consider myself in the rat race.
And how could I possibly get out of the rat race?
When my passive income is greater than my expenses.
That’s also one of the reasons why I took this blog seriously this year.
I know that somewhere down the line, there would eventually be growth.
It’s just a matter of time!
It Takes One Great Experience to Teach You One Great Lesson
Things happen in our lives. It takes one great experience to teach you one great lesson!
For me, this Boracay trip says it all.
This has led me to create my greatest goal.
My GREATEST GOAL is this… (did I say greatest??)
I want my passive income to be 100X greater than my expenses!
Sounds outlandish? I know it will come. It’s just a matter of time.
Everyone starts somewhere. And for me, this is the start.
If I may quote what Robert Kiyosaki says that the Cashflow game believes…
“We believe the best way to learn isn’t done reading textbooks or listening to lectures. We believe the best learning is accomplished by doing the real thing.”
These are the lessons that taught me a great deal this year!
Looking forward to 2020 as I believe this will be the year of many transitions for me. #LoveIsMyPower
Wishing you all the best in 2020!
I’m rooting for you!
