So, have you tried doing circuit training workouts before??
Thought you’ll find my story interesting…
Early this year, I’ve been hearing my friends tell me…
“OMG! What happened to you, March?? You’ve grown….so big!” “Oh, and look at your belly!!”
Coming from months of almost no exercise, I don’t blame them for calling me out.
That’s why, as soon as I got this honest remark from my friends, the only thing I had in mind was this…
Find a gym near me!
My feet brought me to this place that offers circuit training workouts.
At first, I had second thoughts…
You see…
I was used to trying different types of machines whenever I go to fitness centers.
But this one’s different.
What they do have is this big open space with only dumbells, kettlebells and other pieces of equipment.
In my mind, I thought those were basic ones.
I was intrigued but I still gave it a try.
I’ve done a half Ironman before so this should be easy….or so I thought!
“How long do beginners like me normally finish a single session?”, I asked the trainer. “70 minutes”, he blurted.
I thought that’s nothing compared to 5-6 hours I would endure finishing a triathlon race.
So off we went.
During the first minute of the program, I sensed that my body was coping really hard. I was doing burpees, push ups and squats but it looked like I couldn’t hold on any longer.
Oh, boy, did it feel so different!
After 3 minutes, I felt sudden dizziness that I asked to be excused. I was sweating excessively!
I was starting to see floaters and black spots in my vision so I was asked to be seated first.
“Common March, you can do it!”, I told myself while trying to convince my inner self that I was strong!
…But I just couldn’t! Too bad. 😀
In short, I lasted for only 3 minutes in my first session.
Did I stop there? Nope. As a matter of fact, I’ve been doing this for almost 2 months now and have been enjoying every sweat so far!
Lesson?
I know my cockiness took its toll on me. But no, that wasn’t the important lesson I learned.
It is this…
Per my trainer, other than having no exercise for the longest time, the other reason for my sudden dizziness which resulted in black spots in my vision was this…
I did not do the breathing exercise the right way.
I was told that whenever you exert an effort, you should exhale/release instead of having to restrain yourself.
In circuit training workouts…or any workouts for that matter!
If there is tension, release!
This means you need to let go of the air out of your lungs when exerting an effort.
I realized I was trying to concentrate that I forgot to release the tension as I was trying so hard to execute.
This got me thinking…
Isn’t it that we also do the same way in life?
Whenever we face struggles, challenges, and difficulties, we try to keep it to ourselves.
Instead of just letting go of the pain.
Letting go of the bitterness.
Letting go of your insecurities…
And letting go of your baggages…
We tend to keep them. We tend to restrain them. Until they become trash!
The next thing you know?
You already have a clouded vision. You start to see these black spots in your vision. You got no hold of your life.
Can I tell you something?
Your body is not a garbage can.
Are you going through hardships right now? Do you feel as though you have a clouded vision? Do you feel as though life is hard on you?
Perhaps, it’s about time you let go of the trash inside you.
Release the tension within. Make room for love. Allow room for healing.
Because then and only then will fresh air get to come in.
If you do this, you allow yourself to see the brand new you.
Let go and let love.
Because you know what?
You’re better than you think you are.
